Recovery
Jan 30th, 2010, 10:03am

Here it lay on this couch recovering from yesterdays knee surgery.  Had a torn miniscus and a torn ACL.  Got the bad news that the torn miniscus is the result of some bones that are wearing oddly and cutting the miniscus.  Also got more bad news that if I keep this up, I will need a knee replacement before I am 40.  This sucks.  Got a huge decision before me now.

The more you put into your therapy, the better off you will be GUARANTEED! Do not slack off when it comes to the physical therapy and listen to everything that they tell you.

The key here is that I am 38 now.  I have had 7 surgeries, 5 on my knees.  I have been racing since I was 14.  My bones are worn funny and I have arthritis.  Believe me, giving up racing will be like a crack addict giving up crack.

We have just inherited bad bones and joints from our family. I'm looking at possible shoulder surgery. This will be my 4th surgery on my shoulders 2 on each one. Just going to sit this season out, heal and recover. Then just practice, go to a few close races here and there, then see what happens for 2011.

This is some good advise bro!
Loose some weight. Eat a better diet. And work your a$$ off 3 days a week!!!
There is no decision for you to make!  Your a racer. Now start acting like one.
If you fell off your quad you would get back on it.
Now get back in the racer mentality.
I won't let you quit for these lame reasons.
Injury and pain is part of racing.
So is training.
Call me if you need some motivation

Believe me, I will recover from the surgery, but you can't make arthritis go away and you can't stop bones from wearing, no matter how great the attitude is.  Both my parents are eaten up with arthritis and have bad joints.  Dad has just had his second shoulder replacement and has one knee replaced.  He needs the second one replaced.  It runs in the family.  I have to think about myself 10 years from now.

So you like to race but quads are too rough on the body.  You should try mini-sprint racing.  It'll be just as addicting but easier on the body ('till you go flipping down the runway at 70 MPH)......anyway, gimme a call and I'll point you in the right direction to get your $14k turn-key car.   Wink
