EQUIPMENT:
1. All machines must have silencers.
2. The machine a rider leaves the starting line on is the official machine of the rider for that event, and he may not switch during the event.
3. It is strongly recommended that you use a kill switch for you machine, but not required. No rider is allowed to carry gasoline except inside his machine's fuel tank.
4. Helmet, goggles, above the ankle boots, gloves, long sleeve shirt and long pants are required for all riders.
5. Safety equipment and machine eligibility are the sole responsibility of the rider and may be tested at anytime prior to, during or after event.
CLASSIFICATION PROTESTS:
Rider Classification Protests:
Protests and appeals related to rider classification will be sent to the Indiana XC Racing for rulings. The Indiana XC Racing Series will make rider classification rulings and handle rider classification related protests. Appeals will be decided by the Indiana XC Racing board. The Indiana XC Racing Series rulings on rider classifications will be binding to the Indiana XC Racing only and will be final.
COURSE:
1. A course may include trails, footpaths, roads, hills, motocross tracks, or any type of terrain which can be negotiated by an ATV or bike.
2. The course will be open to inspection the day prior to the race. Participants are permitted to ride a bicycle or walk the course only when race events are not taking place.
3. Marking, cutting, tampering with or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by an Indiana Cross Country Racing official.
4. Only registered racers and officials may ride the course during the race.
5. If a rider leaves the course for any reason he must re-enter where he left.
6. Riders must remain on the marked course. A marked course is that official route designated by and marked with official Indiana Cross Country Racing markings.
7. Riders must stay within the confines of the following “direct path” markers: arrows posted on the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, motocross track, grass track, etc.. Furthermore, riders may not cut to the inside of any corner marker.
8. Riders encountering a traffic-jam or bottleneck may go within than 25 feet off the course to get around the bottleneck as long as no “direct path” markers are compromised. However, the rider must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must ride the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the rider must stay on the original marked course. A "bottleneck" is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of check points.
9. All riders must proceed only in the correct direction of the course route or trail. Riding backwards on the race course at any time is prohibited. Riding backwards on the course is grounds for penalties of up to and including disqualification.
10. Anytime “double arrows” are posted on both sides of the trail, they represent the limits of the course. Riders must stay between the double arrows where they are posted.
11. All riders must remain on the marked course at all times. The “Course” is considered to be the immediate trail as marked with arrows. The course will extend a maximum of 25 feet to the left or right of the arrows.
12. Riders found off the course as defined above are subject to penalties up to disqualification.
13. If a rider leaves the marked course for ANY reason, the rider must enter the course in the exact location where they left it (or must re-enter in a location that is farther from the finish line than where they left the course). In cases where this is not practical, the rider must refuse to be scored for the lap where they were off course. Upon completion of the race, it is the rider’s responsibility to immediately dismount, and return to the score tent to verify they were not scored for such a lap. Riders who notify the scorer of the “short lap” will be penalized the lap where the mistake was made. Penalty for doing a “short” lap and not notifying the scorer of such error will be disqualification. At the scorers or promoters discretion, and only with significant compelling reasons, such a disqualification penalty may be reduced to loss of a lap.
14. Ribbon, banners, staked markings, etc. always represent the limit of the course. A rider who rides through any such marking may be penalized up to disqualification. Tearing down course markings can cause serious event problems, and course misses by other riders. Riders must exercise the proper speed, and control at all times to avoid damaging any such markings, stakes, or barriers. Damage to, or passing through such course markings may result in penalties. If a rider is off the course, intentionally tearing down or riding through a bannered area of the course in order to reenter the course is a violation of the rules regarding reentering the course and carries penalties up to disqualification.
15. In the event of severe bottlenecks or a traffic jam at a particular obstacle, a rider may get off the course only as far as absolutely necessary to clear the obstacle. The rider must take the shortest line back to the course immediately after clearing the bottleneck, not the shortest line to the finish. On the next lap, the original course must be followed.
16. Slower riders are required to allow faster riders to pass. The slower rider moves to the right when possible to be passed on the left. The slower rider must take the first opportunity to allow the faster rider to pass.
17. Blocking, ramming, or any other intentional rider contact is a violation and may be penalized. This is true on the course, checkpoints, and especially the scoring tent.
18. Team tactics will not be allowed. Riders found making a “team” effort to block or otherwise impede another rider may be disqualified from current and at the next Indiana XC Racing event.
START PROCEDURE:
1. Starting procedures will be explained at Riders Meeting.
2. Riders shall line up on their assigned starting row on a first come basis when directed by the race official.
3. All starts are dead engine with the exception of 50 Bikes and the mini quads. The official will signal all riders to turn off their engines.
4. A “10 Seconds” signal will be given before the flag is thrown. At the “10 Seconds” signal, all crew members must step away.
5. Any rider taking off with the wrong row will be penalized.
6. Any rider that misses the start of their class must enter the race course at the starting line and complete the start chute.
7. The event will be timed from the start of the first class in the session for termination purposes. There will be a 1 to 2 min break before the next class begins.
- Riders meetings are MANDATORY. All riders are required to attend the riders meeting. Riders who receive penalties due to missing information provided at a riders meeting will be upheld.
8. The start of the riders meeting will be signaled using a horn, or megaphone. All riders are required to turn off engine during riders meeting regardless of their proximity to speakers or meeting. This includes all riders in the pit area, warm up area (if available) and all other locations within earshot of the riders meeting. Riders failing to stop engine or interrupting a meeting may be penalized.
9. Riders meetings will be “on the line” 10 minutes prior to start. Riders Must Attend The Riders Meeting.
Indiana XC Racing Start Procedure:
- The starter should be clearly visible to the entire start line and wearing Indiana XC Racing staff clothing.
- A green flag will be used to start the event.
- The starter will give the signal to kill engines about 20 - 30 seconds before the start. This signal will be a flat hand motioned across starter’s throat.
- ALL RIDERS, ALL ROWS, ALL CLASSES, MUST KILL THEIR ENGINE.
- The starter will hold the flag down to their side. At approximately 10 seconds before the start, the starter will signal the 10 second until start.
- After about 10 seconds, the starter will raise the green flag
- AFTER THE FLAG IS RAISED, riders start their engines and go.
10. Classes will start 30 seconds to one minute apart unless otherwise directed at riders meeting.
11. ANY RIDER FOUND STARTING ON THE WRONG ROW will be penalized a minimum of one lap, a maximum of disqualification. At scoring time, the rider’s last lap will be removed and their place recalculated.
12. Any rider who has a false start (starts before the green flag is raised) must return to the line behind their class and start with the next class. A rider who has a false (early) start and does not return will be penalized a minimum of one lap.
13. Any rider whose machine does not start within 30 seconds of the start must remove their machine from the start area immediately. Such a rider may reattempt to start their machine with the next class. A rider who does not clear the start line in time for the next class start may be penalized. Once the starter has given the “engines off” signal, NO ENGINES are to be started including any from prior classes who have not yet started.
FINISH:
1. The “White flag” sign will be displayed in the scoring tent to indicate the leader is on their last lap and will receive the checkered flag when they finish the lap. The white flag will be displayed to the leader when it is estimated that the leader will have rode the minimum event time upon completion of one more lap.
2. When the leader has completed one lap after the white flag is displayed, the race is over. The checkered flag will be displayed in the scoring tent. The race may be declared “over” early or prior to the leader at the promoter’s or scorer’s discretion in order to clear the course of slower riders for the next event, clear course before dark, clear course due to track conditions, etc.
3. Yellow caution tape will be prominently displayed on each side of the course near the scoring tent, typically 25 to 125 feet from the entrance, this includes and breaks in the caution tape. These signs mark the strict no passing, pitting and high caution zone. Riders passing or pitting in this area may be penalized. Normal penalty for passing or pitting in this zone, but not inside the scoring tent will be loss of the offending lap's score. Within the no passing zone, no part of the front tire should pass the rearmost part of the machine in front. Riders must be in single file.
4. Riders may pass within the no-passing zone if the passed rider is on a disabled machine AND they are directed to do so by scoring personnel.
5. If a “Checkered Flag” is displayed prior to the scoring tent, then the race is considered over at that point and no passing may be done beyond that point. Such checkered flag will be waived by race personnel or affixed to barrier posts prior to the scoring tent. A checkered flag is not required to mark the finish line 25 to 75 ft. prior to score tent.
6. After the checkered flag is displayed (even if it is displayed early) the riders who remain on the course will have 1½ times the leaders finish lap time to make it back to the scoring tent and clear the course (i.e. if the leader lap time was 20 minutes, remaining riders have 1½ x20=30 minutes to clear the course). Any rider who does not make it to the scoring station before it is closed will be scored based on their previous lap (if they made one). Scorer may extend the scoring close time at their discretion.
7. It is the rider’s responsibility to see and take notice that the race is over. Riders must not re-enter the course after the checkered flag has been displayed indicating the end of the race. A rider who re-enters the course and completes a lap after the checkered flag is displayed will be penalized. Penalty will be loss of the “extra” lap score plus the loss of the score for the last lap completed.
8. DNF will be assigned to any rider not completing at least one lap.
9. Riders must complete the course on their own or their machine's power. A rider may push their machine to the finish line but may not be helped by spectators, crew, etc. A rider may not block the course in order to push their machine across the finish line. A rider pushing their machine to the finish must do so on the regular course to be scored.
10. After the checked flag, track sweep will be done front the start to the end, and broke down machines and riders will be removed from the track in the order from start to finish. The first person will be the track sweepers letting the trail boss know were a riders in broke down. Only then will someone come a assist you and your machine back to he pits.
SCORING:
1. Riders must come to a complete stop at all check points and scoring areas. The scoring area and check points are "No Passing and Pitting" zones.
2. It is the rider's responsibility to make sure he has all scans. Missing scans may result in a penalty.
3. A rider will be penalized for running into an official or breaking caution tape in the scoring area, which may start up to 200 feet before the scoring tent.
4. All events will be a 90 minute plus 1 lap timed event, with the exception of 65cc and 85cc bikes which will be 40 minutes plus 1 lap, 50cc bikes which will be 25 minutes plus 1 lap & youth ATV’s will be 40 minutes plus 1 lap. Racers have 1½ times the leaders finish lap time to finish the race after the overall winner takes the checkered flag.
5. A rider must finish the event to be eligible for points and awards. In order to be considered a finisher, a rider must complete at least complete 1 lap ( Unless riders have a mechanical issue, then the rider will be credited with at least starting the race). Then it is not necessary to take the checkered flag.
6. Riders may get mechanical assistance on the course from their pit crew or spectators, but must finish the race under the machine's own power or by the rider physically.
7. Final class standings will be based on the accumulation of class points from the point breakdown listed below.
8. No towing allowed. If a machine is towed in from the course, that lap will not count.
9. A rider must ride 7 of the 9 races for adult classes and 3 of 5 races for the youth classes to qualify for year end prizes.
10. All races will count for year end points with 2 lowest points, DNF or no show thrown out.
12. A rider may question/protest the scores within the 30-minute period following the posting of the final results. After 30 minutes, awards will be given out.
13. Protests must be in writing.
14. Penalties will be assessed at the discretion of the official based on the severity of the offense, and may include one or more of the following: position(s), lap(s), time penalty, or disqualification.
15. Scores displayed in the score tent are “unofficial”. Scores at race time may be adjusted prior to posting due to errors in signup, disqualifications, penalty assessments, etc. and it is each rider’s responsibility to check their final score on the official posted results.
16. All class results will be posted after the last rider is scored. Results will be posted by class and include the riders helmet number, rider name, and manufacturer brand indicated at signup.
17. Riders are not allowed to remove the posted results unless directed to do so by the referee or scorer. If a rider has a question or problem with the posted results the referee should be informed and protest procedures followed if appropriate.
18. 30 minutes after the results have been posted, the protest period is closed and the results are final. Any errors found after the fact will not affect award positions.
19. In unusual circumstances where obvious human error was involved, and it is clear beyond doubt that the scores are incorrect, then at the discretion of the Indiana XC Racing Series finish positions may be corrected if: 1) the error is found or brought to the attention of the scorer within 24 hours. Such corrections will not affect trophy awards as awarded after protest period.
TIES
• Ties for the class championship will be broken by the most first place finishes, then by the most second place finishes, and so on as necessary. If a tie still remains, the championship goes to the rider that finished highest in the last race that they BOTH competed in. (not necessarily the last race of the year) -This has happened more than once, in the classes where there are usually only 2-3 guys anyway....we have had them tie and both have 3 firsts, 3 seconds, and 2 thirds~ then you go to the last race that they both raced in and see who finished better there!
RIDER NUMBERS
• Indiana X Racing numbers may be used by only 1 rider, based on previous years points, first come first serve.
• No duplicate numbers within the race divisions (example bikes, ATV’s, youth etc.) one number per rider per divisions.
• Any series rider may renew their number before Feb. 1st of that year’s race season.
• After Feb. 1st rider numbers are on a first come basis pending Indiana XC Racing Series approval.
